The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences was founded in 1959 as the Higher Technical School of Metallurgy, which in 1961 grew into the Faculty of Metallurgy, University of Sarajevo. The first task of the Faculty of Metallurgy was the education of metallurgical engineers for the needs of the Zenica Ironworks, which was built way back in 1892.

Since then, the Faculty has undergone several organizational transformations and today we have five study programs at the Faculty:
Metallurgical Engineering,
Materials Engineering,
Chemical Engineering,
Environmental Protection Engineering, and
Safety at work and fire protection

A total of 1,350 students have graduated from the Faculty since its establishment. Seventy candidates obtained the scientific degree of Master and 46 candidates obtained the scientific degree of Doctor of Science.

The mission of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, as a scientific-educational institution positioned in the status of an organizational unit of the University of Zenica, is to educate young and high-quality experts in the field of technical sciences, capable of being leaders in the development of the industry of Canton, the region and beyond.

The vision of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences in Zenica is to develop into a modern European higher education institution recognized for its scientific and research achievements and the achievements of graduates and postgraduates in the fields of study programs through the acquisition of knowledge, skills and training of students for independent work.
